Centre clears Rs 700 mn for Meghalaya’s NH-6 repair

Maintenance work on the dilapidated National Highway-6 from Mawryngkneng to Jowai will begin soon, as the Centre has agreed to sanction Rs 700 million to repair the stretch, sanction Rs 70 crore to repair the stretch, Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said this week.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has submitted a Detailed Project Report (DPR) to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) in this regard. “Once the sanction is accorded, the road will be repaired within a few months,” Tynsong said.

He added that the DPR includes the Jowai bypass till the 4th mile. It may be noted that the East Jaintia National Council (EJNC) had sought the intervention of the Deputy CM in the matter.
