Citywide Coastal Road to relieve traffic on the Sion Panvel Expressway

The City and Industrial Development Corporation's (CIDCO) proposal for a coastal road from Jalmarg (Sector 16 Kharghar) to Sector 11 in the CBD and a balance link between Sector 15 CBD and the water transport terminal in Nerul has been approved by the Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority (MCZMA) to relieve traffic on the Sion-Panvel Expressway. The primary route connecting Navi Mumbai and Mumbai will be the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link with Sewri Nhava connector.

The construction of the Kharghar Coastal Road link will allow for the easiest and fastest access between the ICP Business Centre and the Navi Mumbai International Airport as well as South and Central Mumbai. It will support Navi Mumbai's expansion as a rival business district to south Mumbai.

The project site is located inside the Coastal Regulation Zone, as well as Areas IA, IB, II, and IVB. 9.679 km of the proposed route is made up of the current road, or 2.986 km. The planned road combines both of the alternatives—a stilt-on-road and a ground-level road proposed via reclamation. It is a part of the development plan for Navi Mumbai.

However, the MCZMA has established 20 requirements. Additionally, because the project entails chopping down mangroves, CIDCO will need to obtain a previous approval from the Bombay High Court. Additionally, the development body will need to get a no objection certificate from the Fisheries Commissioner and proactively take suitable steps to decrease and offset the road's impact on nearby fishing.
