The Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has directed that the work of widening all 12-foot-wide roads to 18 feet be completed by March 2027 after reviewing the Public Works Department five-year roadmap at the Civil Secretariat. He said well-maintained roads of adequate width are essential for convenience and safe mobility. The directions form part of Haryana Vision-2047. Officials reported that the state has 3,240 kilometres of 12-foot-wide link roads being widened to 18 feet, with work on 1,696 kilometres under way and 1,544 kilometres scheduled for the current year. The Chief Minister directed high construction standards and installation of road signage, berms and white edge lines. He also instructed roadside tiling and green belts to reduce dust, heat and pollution in urban areas. In the first phase, 138 roads covering 368 kilometres across six urban centres — Sonipat, Faridabad, Gurugram, Panipat, Rohtak and Karnal — have been identified for paver blocks and green grass, with completion targeted by November 2027. Officers said work to eliminate manned railway crossings is under way in coordination with the Railways but some projects await approvals. The Chief Minister asked for a list of pending cases to raise with the Union Railway Minister. He reviewed 17 bypass projects, noting four are complete and others face land availability challenges, and urged expedited acquisition through Deputy Commissioners. Officers were asked to prepare a plan for a light vehicles road beneath the elevated track in Kurukshetra and a comprehensive scheme to install solar panels on all government buildings and Market Committee sheds so that by 2028 no building remains without a solar panel installation. He directed that new government buildings include electric vehicle charging stations and that at least one station be available within every 50-kilometre radius. Foundation stones for new rest houses will be laid on August 15, and a state-of-the-art rest house in Kurukshetra is estimated to cost Rs 780 million (mn).
