Imphal City Sees Major Concrete Road Project Underway

Construction of rigid pavement and concrete roads is progressing rapidly across Imphal city under the Manipur Urban Road, Drainage and Asset Management & Improvement Project.
Speaking to Akashvani News, State PWD Additional Chief Engineer Chongtham Bishwachandra stated that the project was approved by the State Cabinet in January 2025, with an estimated cost of around Rs 36.47 billion. Of this, the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) will provide Rs 28.96 billion as a loan, while the State government will cover the remaining portion.
Bishwachandra highlighted that this initiative is the first of its kind in Imphal, employing advanced construction technology. The project will cover a total of 547 kilometres of city roads. Construction of concrete roads is currently in full swing along Palace Compound Road in the Imphal East district.
