India Builds 101,900 km of National Highways Since 2014

Since April 2014, India has constructed and developed approximately 101,900 km of National Highways (NHs). The average annual highway construction during 2014-2024 has increased by about 130% compared to the previous decade (2004-2014).

Currently, 1,366 NH projects, spanning around 32,366 km, are under construction across the country, including in Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, and the North-Eastern states. These projects are in various stages of completion and are expected to be finished in phases by the financial year 2028.

All NH construction follows government-mandated standards, including those specified by the Indian Roads Congress (IRC) for quality and safety. Contractors and concessionaires are responsible for adhering to these regulations, with oversight provided by consultants and government agencies through regular audits and inspections. Some projects also involve third-party quality audits.

Road safety measures are integrated at every stage, from design to operation and maintenance. Safety audits are conducted to ensure compliance, and necessary measures are taken during construction and operation to enhance traffic safety.

In Rajasthan, the district headquarters of Jalore and Sirohi are connected to the NH network via NH-325 and NH-62.
