Kali River Bridge Collapse Disrupts Traffic on NH 66

A bridge over the Kali River collapsed early Wednesday morning, causing significant traffic disruptions on National Highway 66, which connects Goa and Karnataka. Officials reported that a truck was on the bridge at the time of the collapse and fell into the river. The driver was rescued by local fishermen, according to a police official from Karwar, Karnataka. The incident occurred around 1 a.m.

The old bridge at Sadashivgad in Karnataka had been in use for Goa-bound traffic since the construction of a new bridge a decade ago.

Following the incident, traffic on the new bridge was temporarily halted in the early hours of Wednesday. Subsequently, vehicles, except heavy ones, were permitted to pass through, as stated by the Karwar police.

Traffic movement on the new bridge was restricted while Karnataka authorities assessed its stability after the collapse of the old bridge. Harish Raut Desai, in-charge of Goa's Canacona police station, mentioned that the Goa police were coordinating with their counterparts in Karwar to monitor the situation on the highway.
