Mizoram CM Reviews NHIDCL Projects, Urges Urgent Highway Repairs

On September 23, the Chief Minister chaired a review meeting with officials of the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDCL) at the Chief Minister’s Conference Hall. The meeting was attended by PWD Minister Vanlalhlana, senior officials from the PWD, Power & Electricity Department, and NHIDCL.

Lalduhoma expressed concern over the deteriorating condition of several highways, noting widespread potholes and surface damage. He urged NHIDCL to ensure proper maintenance during the Contractor Liability Period and stressed that old town roads should be handed over to the State PWD for upkeep when new bypasses are constructed. He highlighted the Aizawl–Vairengte highway as the “lifeline of Mizoram” and asked for it to be given top priority.

Acknowledging Mizoram’s heavy rainfall and prolonged monsoon, the Chief Minister proposed the use of rigid pavement technology to improve road durability. NHIDCL informed that the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has directed officials to examine the proposal, and Lalduhoma urged for swift implementation.

The Chief Minister also raised concerns over the collapse of the Thingfala Mamte ‘T’ Baptist Church, reportedly linked to road-cutting works. Officials confirmed that assessments had been completed and reports submitted to NHIDCL headquarters.

NHIDCL Regional Executive Director Pu Adelbert Susngi assured Lalduhoma that all issues raised would be addressed promptly and briefed the state leadership on challenges at various project sites.
