MMRDA to assist MBMC in road concrete work

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) announced its intention to assist the Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) in the concretization of approximately 22 kilometres of internal and arterial roads within the twin city. The project, estimated at a cost of Rs 3.16 billion, is scheduled to span two years.

Prior to the outbreak of Covid, the MBMC had initiated the process of converting all roads falling under its jurisdiction from bituminous or unpaved surfaces to concrete ones. However, they were only able to complete one-third of the 236-kilometre-long stretch. Consequently, the MMRDA has offered its support.

According to an official, the plan for road improvement and concretization is divided into four packages. The first package will encompass 12 roads, totalling 5.304 kilometres, located in ward 2. The second phase will include 11 roads, with a combined length of 4.367 kilometres, situated in wards 2 and 4. The third part of the plan consists of 14 roads, measuring 6.385 kilometres, while the final package comprises a dozen roads with a cumulative length of 5.751 kilometres, located in wards 4 and 5.

The civic area spans 79.4 square kilometres, with approximately 18.73% of the total network, equivalent to 14.9 square kilometres, designated by the government as areas under the special planning authority.
