Mumbai To Begin Nepean Sea Road Concretisation From Feb 17

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will commence concretisation work on Nepean Sea Road from Mukesh Chowk to Priyadarshini Park on February 17, with temporary traffic diversions, partial road closures and alternative routes to be implemented to maintain smooth flow during construction. The project forms part of the civic body's broader road concretisation initiative across the city and follows a phased approach. In Phase one, 77 per cent of targeted work has been completed and Phase two stands at 52 per cent, achieving an overall 63 per cent progress.

BMC Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani has directed officials to ensure meticulous road-wise planning, strict adherence to timelines and high quality execution across the length of the stretch. Deputy Commissioner Zone D Manish Valanju conducted a review of the Nepean Sea Road project accompanied by local corporators Ajay Patil, Sunny Sanap, Snehal Tendulkar and Gaurang Jhaveri, Deputy Chief Engineer Roads City Dr Vishal Thombre, Assistant Engineer Hulavale and Senior Police Inspector Traffic Nilesh Kamble. The review focused on phasing, traffic management and quality assurance measures.

Temporary diversions and partial closures will be in place during work hours and the civic administration will deploy traffic management arrangements to reduce congestion and maintain access for emergency services and residents. Motorists are being urged to follow displayed instructions and use alternative routes as advised to ensure safety and minimise disruption. The administration will coordinate with local police to manage peak hour movements and signage will be installed at key junctions.

The BMC has appealed for public cooperation while work proceeds and indicated that regular updates on traffic arrangements and project progress will be shared as the scheme advances. Officials reiterated expectations for timely completion and high construction standards and said monitoring mechanisms will be employed to ensure compliance. Residents and road users are advised to plan journeys in advance and heed temporary traffic advisories.
