Odisha staged a major infrastructure launch on June 20, 2026, as state and national leaders presided over an event in Rairangpur. The ceremony was attended by President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi. Projects totalling Rs 11.917 billion (bn) were inaugurated or marked for construction. Officials inaugurated nine road and bridge projects worth Rs 8.119 billion (bn) and laid foundation stones for three additional projects valued at Rs 3.798 billion (bn). The inaugurated works included four National Highway initiatives costing Rs 5.369 billion (bn) in total, covering the Nayagarh Bypass (NH-57), Rigdol–Belgaon Section (NH-59), Reamal Bypass (NH-53) and Kotpad Bypass (NH-63). Five Roads and Buildings schemes amounting to Rs 2.750 billion (bn) were also opened, improving district and inter-district connectivity. These projects cover the Taladanda Canal Right Embankment Road in Cuttack, Ichhapur–Basudevpur Road in Bhadrak, Dhenkanal–Kaimati–Joranda Road in Dhenkanal, Bijepur–Dublabahal Road in Bargarh and Deobandha–Chandahandi via Fatki Road in Nabarangapur. The mix of highway and local roads reflects a strategy to strengthen both long?distance corridors and last?mile links. The works will involve road resurfacing, bridge construction and embankment strengthening, together with safety features and drainage improvements. Implementation will be overseen by the Works Department with coordination from national highway authorities for the relevant sections. The investment mix is intended to bolster freight movement and local accessibility while supporting routine maintenance regimes. Foundation stones were laid for the Kathajodi High?Level Bridge in Cuttack, the Dhalpur–Harabhanga Road in Boudh and the widening of the Nuapada–Ghatipada section of NH?353. Authorities indicated the measures are intended to enhance connectivity, reduce travel time and improve road safety across the region. The projects are expected to support economic activity by facilitating smoother movement of goods and people. State planners described the programme as a balanced investment in strategic corridors and local infrastructure.
