Odisha to Establish State Highway Authority for 75,000 km Road Network

The Odisha government is set to establish the Odisha State Highway Authority (OSHA) to oversee the development and maintenance of a 75,000-kilometre road network across the state. This initiative, modelled after the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), aims to enhance road safety and infrastructure quality.

Works Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan highlighted that OSHA will tackle challenges such as land acquisition, environmental approvals, and rehabilitation processes. The authority will also manage traffic disruptions during urban road construction projects.

Odisha joins nine other states, including Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra, in establishing a dedicated highway authority. The government anticipates that OSHA will significantly reduce road accidents and improve overall road safety in the region.
