Rs 0.32 bn road repair works set to resume overcoming hurdles

The road recarpeting project, which had been halted due to objections raised by the Director General of Audit office, is set to recommence in the coming days. This positive development follows recommendations from the Central Road Research Institute (CRRI) to both the UT administration and the municipal corporation (MC) regarding the execution of the works. The CRRI advised carrying out the project in accordance with the specifications and guidelines set by the Indian Roads Congress and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH).

In order to resume the works, the civic body submitted a file to the administration, seeking permission. The administration plans to inform the audit office about the CRRI report and their advice. The MC's engineering department had initially allocated Rs 48 crore for road recarpeting works, which had begun after the tendering process during the summer. However, only around Rs 16 crore worth of work had been completed before objections were raised in the audit letter. Now, with the approval of the UT administration, the remaining works will be resumed.
