Tamil Nadu CM To Open Rs 15.5 Billion Flyover in Coimbatore

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin is set to inaugurate the Avinashi Road flyover in Coimbatore next month, Minister for Public Works, Highways and Minor Ports E.V. Velu said on Sunday. The inauguration is expected to take place on 9 October, pending the Chief Minister’s approval during his scheduled visit to the city.
The Rs 15.5 billion project, delayed by nine months due to land acquisition, shifting of utility lines, and railway-related works, will be completed by the end of September. Stretching nearly 10 km from Uppilipalayam to Goldwins, the four-lane flyover will feature four up and four down ramps.
Officials highlighted that the new infrastructure will significantly cut travel time for vehicles heading towards Erode and Salem, as well as for passengers travelling to and from Coimbatore International Airport.
During his inspection, the Minister also reviewed progress on the Periyar Library project. Costing Rs 3.6 billion, the library will span 1.98 lakh sq. ft. across six acres and feature sections for English and Tamil books, a digital centre, children’s library, competitive exam resources, and a 350-seat auditorium. It will also provide parking for 200 cars and 500 two-wheelers. The inauguration date will be decided by the Chief Minister.
