Vasishta Bridge Project in Andhra Gains Momentum

The long-pending Rs five point eight billion (Rs 5.8 bn) Vasishta bridge project in Andhra Pradesh's Rajamahendravaram has gained momentum as Central and State governments take concrete steps. The revised alignment will link Rameswaram in Dr BR Ambedkar Konaseema district with Rajulanka in Narasapur Rural mandal instead of the earlier Narasapuram–Sakhinetipalli plan. The scheme is expected to include a 14-km approach road from NH-216 at Gudimellanka to Rameswaram, a major bridge across the Vasishta Godavari and a seven-km connecting road through Lakshmaneswaram to NH-216 at Seetharampuram.

The project, which faced repeated delays despite earlier foundation ceremonies, had been formally launched by the previous government but stalled on administrative and technical grounds. Four contractors have submitted bids and the Deputy Engineer of the National Highways Authority reported that technical evaluation of tender documents is under way in New Delhi. Construction will commence once scrutiny is complete and the contract is awarded.

The Water Resources Minister described the proposed bridge as a game changer for rapid economic and infrastructural development in Konaseema and Narasapuram in West Godavari district and expressed confidence that the project would be completed by 2029. He assured that there would be no shortage of funds and that construction activities would be expedited once work commences to ensure timely completion of the prestigious project. Officials expect improved connectivity across the Godavari delta, reduced travel time and faster movement of people and goods.

Planners project that the bridge will provide a major boost to trade, tourism and economic growth in the twin Godavari districts while easing logistical bottlenecks for local industries and agricultural supply chains. Stakeholders will monitor tender evaluation and contract award timelines closely as authorities move to translate the long-standing proposal into on-ground implementation. The project remains subject to final approvals and execution milestones before full benefits accrue to the region.
