The Board of Directors of the Delhi Metro Corporation (DMRC) have reportedly re-approved Delhi Metro’s Phase IV project, although the Delhi Cabinet has yet to give its approval. The project is expected to give commuters more options to avoid lengthy detours. Previously, the DMRC was reportedly asked to take the project back to its board to seek its re-approval prior to the cabinet’s approval by the Delhi Government. The estimated cost of the project has been changed twice till date and it was mandatory for the board to re-validate the project. In 2016, the first estimated cost of Phase IV mentioned in the detailed project reported, submitted to the Centre and Delhi Government, was Rs 552.08 billion. However, its recent estimated cost was Rs 456.03 million, which was revised again to Rs 468 billion. In 2014, the estimated cost was based on the earlier tax regime which was reduced by Rs 100 billion by taking the taxes as per GST into account. According to reports, apart from the change in overall cost of the project, there have also been changes in the loan component of the project, which has necessitated the re-approval from the DMRC board. The proportion of the loan to be provided by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is expected to come down to 43 per cent, while it was 60 per cent during Phase I, 54 per cent and 51 per cent in Phase II and Phase III, respectively. The 104-km-long Phase IV project, has six proposed corridors, namely the Janakpuri West-RK Ashram Marg corridor, Majlis Park-Maujpur corridor, Inderlok-Indraprastha corridor, Tughlakabad-Delhi Aerocity corridor, Lajpat Nagar-Saket G Block corridor, Rithala-Narela corridor.
