Construction of 111 pillars between Porur-Poonamallee in Chennai

As many as 111 pillars have been built, and 342 more pillars will be constructed to establish an elevated metro rail line between Porur and Poonamallee in Chennai Metro’s phase 2 project, covering 7.94 km.

The line is being constructed for Rs 1,147 crore.

The Porur-Poonamallee line, which is likely to open by June 2023, is part of corridor-3 of the 118.9 km phase-2 from Lighthouse to Poonamallee.

On the Porur-Poonamallee route, work is also underway to build a 2.3 km viaduct from Kumananchavadi junction to Karayanchavadi. At present, pillars are being built at Kattupakkam.

M A Siddique, who took charge as the managing director of Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) on Tuesday, inspected the construction site between Poonamallee and Saligramam earlier this week.

In Chennai Metro’s phase 2 project, the work on the elevated line of the Poonamallee-Lighthouse corridor between Poonamallee and Power House at Kodambakkam has been speeding up with the first pair of U-girders established on the pillars close to Sri Ramachandra Hospital.
