Construction work for Subarnarekha Port in Odisha will begin soon at a cost of Rs 40 bn. Out of 961.18 acre that is needed for the project, the state has already sanctioned 692.68 acre. Chennai-based Creative Port (CPPL) has proposed to build an all-weather deep-draft commercial port with an initial capacity of 10 mtpa. However, Tata Steel has reportedly signed an agreement with CPPL for 51 per cent equity in the project, which is expected to be completed in 36 months.
