INS Tushil Strengthens India-Morocco Maritime Relations with Port Call

INS Tushil, an Indian warship on its first operational deployment, made an official stop at Casablanca, Morocco, on December 27.

This visit represents a significant step in enhancing both maritime and diplomatic relations between India and Morocco, according to a statement from the Ministry of Defence.

The MoD explained that the purpose of the visit is to explore new avenues for cooperation between the two navies. Over the last year, three Indian Navy ships—Tabar, Tarkash, and Sumedha—have visited Casablanca, fostering greater mutual trust and interoperability.

During its two-day visit, the INS Tushil crew will engage with personnel from the Royal Moroccan Navy, host senior officials and distinguished guests, and focus on strengthening naval cooperation, diplomatic ties, and goodwill. Following the visit, both navies will conduct a Passage Exercise (PASSEX) at sea to enhance interoperability and exchange best practices, as per the Ministry's press release.

The Indian Navy spokesperson shared details of the port call on X, stating: “#INSTushil on her maiden operational deployment en route to #India, made a port call at Casablanca, Morocco on #27Dec 24 and received a warm welcome by the #RoyalMoroccanNavy. Cross-deck visits, professional exchanges & friendly sports fixtures in harbour followed by joint exercises at sea planned with the host Navy. India-Morocco #BridgesofFriendship.”

INS Tushil, commissioned on December 9, 2024, in Russia, is commanded by Captain Peter Varghese, supported by a team of 250 personnel. As it continues its journey to Karwar, its home port, the frigate will participate in joint exercises with other friendly foreign navies, further advancing India’s maritime diplomacy in the region, the Ministry noted.
