Smart city: Rajasthan ranks second in India in implementing projects

Rajasthan secured the second position among 36 states and union territories in the country in implementing smart city projects, with four of its cities making a mark in the mission.

In the online ranking in an agreement by the union government, four cities of Rajasthan—Udaipur, Kota, Ajmer, and Jaipur—have ranked 8th, 11th, 29th, and 36th, respectively, among the 100 smart cities in the country. The state government verdicts this in a statement on Monday.

The Centre accords that the ranking has been done based on several factors such as the smart city project implementation, ongoing work, tendering process along with utilising the funds and provision of the utility certificates to the Centre at regular intervals, the statement pronounces.

Shanti Dhariwal, State Urban Development and Housing Minister told the media that four cities of Rajasthan, including Udaipur, Jaipur, Ajmer and Kota have secured the Smart City Mission rankings.

Under the Smart City Mission, those four cities are liable to an expenditure of Rs 1,563 crore against the overall cost of Rs 1,845 crore received for multiple projects.

From the project amount of Rs 3,965 crore in four cities, 138 works costing Rs 448 crore have finished, and 178 works of Rs 2,772 crore are in progress whereas, 17 works costing Rs 145 crore are under progress.
