Gurugram: C&D waste biggest source of pollution

Gurugram has seen no improvement in its state of affairs when it comes to pollution caused by construction and demolition (C&D) waste as it continues to be the biggest source of pollution in the city.

As per the most recent report prepared by the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) on the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) on pollution in the city between November 1 and 11, the dust from C&D waste contributed to about 30 per cent of the city’s air pollution. Reportedly, a penalty of a total of Rs 2.67 lakh was collected from 55 defaulters for dumping C&D waste illegally.

Residents of the city are reportedly of the opinion that any action against the pollution has not seemed to have much of an impact. They are waiting for government action as health conditions have been getting worse with the air quality going down day by day.

It is known that the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram are conducting regular inspections in the city. Reportedly, penalties of more than Rs 9 lakh have been collected for pollution norm violations since November 1. MCG has, in the last 10 days, reportedly conducted 542 inspections and identified 293 defaulters for causing pollution with activities banned by the administration. It is also known to have issued notices to 186 violators.
