Hindustan Zinc Hosts Minister to Showcase Mining and CSR Impact

"Hindustan Zinc (BSE: 500188, NSE: HINDZINC) hosted Shri G. Kishan Reddy, Union Minister of Coal and Mines, at its Rajpura Dariba Complex in Rajasthan, highlighting technology-led underground mining, integrated smelting operations, and flagship community development initiatives. The visit included the Sindesar Khurd Mine, one of the world’s largest silver-producing underground mines, and Dariba Smelting Complex, showcasing end-to-end mining-to-metal capabilities.

The company’s annual refined metal capacity exceeds 1.1 million tonnes, supplying critical metals such as zinc, lead, and silver for steel galvanisation, renewable energy, electric mobility, electronics, defence, and advanced manufacturing. Hindustan Zinc plays a strategic role in supporting India’s mineral security and self-reliant industrial ecosystem.

During the visit, the Minister reviewed remote-operated underground mining, paste-filling systems, tele-remote equipment, and witnessed India’s first women mine rescue team, recognising the company’s focus on safety, inclusion, and operational excellence. He also interacted with Zinc Ratna contract workers and women mining engineers, acknowledging their contribution to operational success.

At Dariba Smelting Complex, the Minister toured the control room, cell house, and cathode yard, appreciating Hindustan Zinc’s integration of safety, technology, and sustainable metal production. The company’s 26.3% women workforce in metals and mining demonstrates its commitment to diversity and leadership development.

Shri G. Kishan Reddy said, “Hindustan Zinc’s operations exemplify modern, responsible, and technology-driven mining. Their integrated capabilities, focus on safety, innovation, community development, and workforce diversity reflect the self-reliant industrial ecosystem envisioned for Atmanirbhar Bharat. Responsible mining will enable India to transform its mineral potential into national strength and inclusive growth.”

The Minister also engaged with beneficiaries of Hindustan Zinc’s community programmes, including Sakhi women’s empowerment, Shiksha Sambal education initiatives, RO Water ATMs, Zinc Football girl athletes, and healthcare outreach. These initiatives have enabled youth from rural communities to pursue careers, including employment with Coal India, highlighting long-term social impact alongside business growth.

Discussions also focused on sustainability, water stewardship, energy transition, low-carbon growth, and technology-driven efficiency across operations. Hindustan Zinc continues to advance responsible mining, contribute to Rajasthan’s socio-economic development, and support India’s journey towards Viksit Bharat through integrated operations, workforce empowerment, and community-focused initiatives."
