Umrer Area Reaches Two Mn Tonnes Coal Production Milestone

New Delhi: Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) said its Umrer Area reached the milestone of two mn t of coal production under the FMC Project. The company reported that the milestone demonstrated sustained operational capacity and adherence to production schedules. The announcement attributed the result to strengthened processes and close coordination among teams.

WCL indicated that the achievement reflected strong leadership and seamless coordination across departments, from coal face operations through to energy delivery. The release highlighted the role of frontline teams and technical staff in maintaining consistent output and ensuring supply reliability for consumers. The company noted that efficient energy delivery remained a central objective of ongoing operations.

Completion of the FMC Project Memorandum of Understanding was presented as a significant step in improving productivity and addressing operational bottlenecks. WCL stated that strategic planning and persistent effort had been central to overcoming geological and logistical challenges. Emphasis was placed on continuous performance enhancement and adherence to safety and environmental norms.

Officials suggested that the milestone would help strengthen national energy security by supporting steady coal supply to power and industrial users. The outcome was described as supporting broader efforts to stabilise fuel availability and to reduce supply side uncertainties in the short to medium term. WCL affirmed that sustaining production levels would remain a priority in the coming months.

The release concluded by noting plans to replicate best practices across other areas within the company and to further streamline operations through targeted interventions. Recognition of the workforce and contractor contribution was highlighted as integral to the achievement. WCL indicated that ongoing monitoring and periodic reviews would be used to sustain operational gains.

The Walled Garden

I am not suggesting Indian architects are inadequate. The profession has produced extraordinary work – from Charles Correa's quiet humanism to Balkrishna Doshi's Nobel-recognised genius. It is time for an honest conversation about this. The Architects Act of 1972 established the Council of Architecture (COA) as the statutory body regulating architecture practice in India. Its founding logic was sound: to ensure those calling themselves architects meet a minimum standard of competence and to protect the publi..
