West Coast refinery project may come up in Maharashtra

Oil minister Hardeep Singh Puri has hinted at reviving Maharashtra's stalled mega West Coast refinery project. Speaking at an industry event here, the minister stated that no concrete proposal has yet been presented to him by the state or investors. Feelers have been distributed, and the response has been positive. The 60 million tonne per year project could be built anywhere in Maharashtra, any other west coast state, or even in a southern state, and it is not limited to Ratnagiri. Splitting the project into two or more locations is also an option, but the minister has reportedly stated that it would be preferable if the over Rs 3 trillion project could be completed in a single location as originally planned. The undertaking had been put on a backburner due to opposition from locals.
