Adani Energy?s Karur Transmission project boosts RE integration in TN

Adani Energy Solutions announced the successful commissioning of the Karur Transmission Ltd (KTL) project in Tamil Nadu. The initiative comprises the establishment of the 400/230 kV, 1000 MVA Karur Pooling Station and an accompanying transmission line stretching over 8.51 circuit kilometres (CKM) in the state.

This project, boasting a transformation capacity of 1,000 MVA, is poised to streamline the power evacuation process from renewable sources in the Karur/Tiruppur Wind Energy Zone. Moreover, it is expected to bolster the Southern Regional grid and facilitate the large-scale integration of renewable energy sources.

"The Karur/Tiruppur Wind Energy Zone stands as a pivotal wind corridor in Tamil Nadu, marked by substantial wind energy capacities and numerous wind farms under construction. AESL was entrusted with this project to ensure the seamless evacuation of up to 2500 MW of green power generated in the region. Aligned with India's decarbonisation objectives, this initiative supports the nation's goal of achieving 500 GW of green energy by 2030. It promises improved access to reliable and clean energy for industrial, commercial, and residential consumers," stated the company in a press release.

AESL clinched this project through the Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) route in December 2021, securing a 35-year contract that encompasses the build, own, operate, and maintain framework.

The company emphasised its swift execution of the project, overcoming topological challenges while minimising ecological impact. Critical tasks included the shutdown of the 400 kV D/C Pugalur-Pugalur (HVDC) line and the erection of tower structures within the constraints of the existing transmission line.

"The completion of the KTL project solidifies AESL's standing as India's premier power transmission company. AESL boasts a portfolio of operational transmission projects and several others in varying stages of construction," affirmed the company.
