Adani Transmission to boost power supply in the Greater Mumbai Area

In order to extend the Mumbai Metropolitan Region's power distribution licence to more areas, including Mulund, Bhandup, some of the Thane district, Navi Mumbai, Panvel, Kharghar, Taloja, and Uran, Adani Transmission (ATL) issued a request for public comments.

This is an attempt by ATL to expand into new areas throughout the MMR and compete with MSEDCL (previously MSEB), the state-run power utility that has been delivering electricity in these areas for more than 60 years.

Adani Electricity Navi Mumbai (AENML), the new subsidiary of TL, recently submitted a request to the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) for the issuance of a distribution licence in the recently discovered areas.

MERC accepted the application on Friday. In five years, it intends to serve more than 5 lakh new customers. Adani Electricity currently serves 31 lakh customers in the suburbs of Mumbai.
