BHEL Signs TTA with BARC for Indigenous Hydrogen Electrolysers

Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL) has signed a technology transfer agreement (TTA) with the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) to develop indigenous alkaline electrolyser systems for hydrogen production. This deal aims to bolster India’s green hydrogen ambitions by retrieving and utilising BARC’s Mixed-Matrix Membrane Diaphragm Technology for electrolysers.

The technology will help reduce reliance on imported materials like Zirfon and asbestos-based diaphragms, making local production of electrolysers more viable and cost-effective. This initiative aligns with India’s clean energy goals, with electrolysers playing a crucial role in generating green hydrogen for industries like steel, fertilisers, and transportation.

BHEL, a leading power equipment manufacturer and India’s largest engineering and manufacturing PSU, continues to strengthen its role in the clean energy sector. The company recently reported a 123.34 per cent rise in net profit to Rs 1.34 billion in Q3 FY25, with revenues growing 32.21 per cent YoY to Rs 72.77 billion.

Shares of BHEL gained 0.22 per cent to Rs 2.26 billion on the BSE.
