Canada Announces Trade Mission To India

Canada has announced a Team Canada Trade Mission to India scheduled for November, a move designed to deepen investment and technology ties between the two countries. The announcement was made in Toronto by Maninder Sidhu, Canada’s Minister of International Trade, during engagements with Indian commerce minister Piyush Goyal and other officials. The mission aims to bring Canadian companies to India to explore collaboration in sectors such as artificial intelligence, critical minerals, nuclear energy, renewable energy, semiconductors, clean technology, digital infrastructure and advanced manufacturing.

Details released by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry said the mission will focus on technology and energy partnerships and will be promoted at events organised by Global Affairs Canada alongside the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and ASSOCHAM. The announcement followed a Canada?India Building Bridges event in which Goyal and Sidhu took part in a recorded discussion and in which the Canadian minister outlined opportunities for bilateral cooperation. The ministry noted participation from more than 100 Indian companies and over 150 representatives from businesses, investor groups and industry associations.

Goyal co?chaired a Canada?India investment roundtable with Sidhu where discussions addressed India’s infrastructure development, financial sector reforms and measures to improve the ease of doing business. He invited Canadian investors to partner in clean energy, digital infrastructure, artificial intelligence, manufacturing and supply chain diversification and encouraged collaboration on critical minerals processing. The discussions also covered cooperation in financial markets to support sustainable growth and shared prosperity for both countries.

During the visit Goyal held a series of one?on?one meetings with Canadian companies and institutional investors from sectors such as insurance, food processing and banking, as well as firms involved in critical minerals processing. Participants examined India’s macroeconomic outlook, the government’s focus on trade agreements and opportunities in high?growth sectors while noting the availability of STEM talent and the rise of Global Capability Centres. The meetings also discussed Production Linked Incentive schemes and India’s improving regulatory environment as enablers for deeper investment ties.
