Do an Atmanirbhar on EV battery tech: Govt

Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has asked the electric vehicle (EV) industry to shift towards indigenous battery technologies.

With the advent of EVs, Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has stressed on the need to emerge as pioneers in developing leading battery and power-train technologies, according to a statement from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH).

This could be metal-ion, metal-air, and other potential technologies in the research and development (R&D) pipeline. Pointing out the need to achieve the "Atmanirbhar Bharat" goal in the transport sector, Gadkari said it is essential to dedicate the coming years to rigorous R&D of such alternative battery technologies with the support of Institutions of Eminence (IoEs), scientists, industry, engineers and the government.
