Golden Temple receives 525 KW solar power plant

A 525 KW solar power plant has been commissioned at the Golden Temple in Amritsar with assistance from the US-based United Sikh Mission.

United Sikh Mission President Rashpal Singh Dhindsa told the media that Sri Darbar Sahib's mission is to provide clean power 24 hours a day, saving them 33% on their annual electricity bill.

According to Dhindsa, this is an effort toward sustainability and global warming reduction that will save 2,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions. The project took five months to complete.

Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee President Bibi Jagir Kaur expressed gratitude to the United Sikh Mission, saying that a 78 KW solar power plant would be installed soon in Gurdwara Baba Deep Singh and 700 KW in Gurdwara Bir Baba Budha Sahib.

Kaur urged the global Sikh community to contribute to the initiative of empowering Darbar Sahib with renewable energy, noting that the monthly electricity budget of Darbar Sahib is around Rs 50 to 60 lakh.

United State based United Sikh Mission is a philanthropic charitable organisation based in Southern California, USA, that has been operating in Punjab, India since 2005 for the benefit of human and environmental welfare.
