MS Chouhan Infraventures Commissions 100 MW Phase I in Rajasthan

MS Chouhan Infraventures Pvt. Ltd. has commissioned the 100 megawatt (MW) Phase I of its 320 megawatt (MW) solar power project at Baiya in Rajasthan. The completed phase forms the first tranche of the broader 320 megawatt scheme and follows regulatory and construction milestones set by the developer and local authorities. Construction included installation of utility-scale modules and balance-of-system components. The company said the commissioning marks a major step in its renewable energy expansion plans.

Once fully operational the 320 megawatt project is expected to offset nearly 0.35 million (mn) tonne (t) of carbon emissions annually, according to estimates provided by the developer and independent consultants. The figure converts the previously stated three point five lakh tonnes into standard units for reporting. The developer converted local estimates to the metric reporting standard to allow comparison with other projects. Reduced emissions are intended to contribute to national clean energy objectives and local air quality improvements.

The 100 megawatt phase adds to Rajasthan's growing solar capacity and reinforces the state as a destination for large-scale renewable projects. The site at Baiya benefits from grid connectivity and solar resource availability that support high capacity factors. Grid synchronisation work and testing were carried out prior to commercial operation. Further phases will be developed to reach the 320 megawatt target with timelines aligned to project funding and permitting.

MS Chouhan Infraventures has prioritised sustainable infrastructure as part of its portfolio diversification and is seeking to expand renewable capacity across India. The company indicated that subsequent phases will follow construction and commissioning best practice to ensure reliable delivery. Local contractors and suppliers were engaged for civil and electrical works to support the programme. The development is expected to bolster local employment during construction and contribute to the regional energy mix.

Land Reforms Could Unlock Urban Affordable Housing

Former cabinet secretary and NITI Aayog member Rajeev Gauba said India’s urban housing shortage could be tackled by unlocking 10 million (mn) vacant homes and using excess unutilised land held by public sector undertakings (PSUs). He said land availability lay at the heart of the problem and estimated that land accounted for as much as 50 to 70 per cent of total project cost. He urged states to waive land?use change fees and exempt stamp duty on land and transactions linked to affordable housing. He noted that urban population was projected to rise from 500 million to nearly 900 million by 2..
