MSEDCL completes laying 150 km underground power cable in Nashik

The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL)- Nashik zone has completed the task of laying 150 km underground power cables in the Old City, Nashik Road, Panchavati area, and City and Industrial Development Corporation (Cidco) areas of Nashik city.

These areas are the most densely populated areas having a measurement of about 150 km. Maximum works had been carried out in Panchavati, Old City, and Cidco. They are critical in nature because of the power thefts in huge numbers, the rate of accidents, and narrow lane crossing in some cases.

MSEDCL Nashik zone chief engineer, Deepak Kumthekar said as it costs a lot of money to lay underground cables it is done by the MSEDCL only in selective areas via special funds from the central office, district planning committee, or local civic body. Currently, about 150 km of cables are laid underground.

The total expense incurred for the works in the past three years was Rs 14.72 crore. According to a state power utility official, a network of overhead wires has been raised in compliance with the maps that were finalised by the town planning department.

While talking about the benefits of the same, it is said that it will help save the lives of people living in the close vicinity of the structures. A total of six people had been electrocuted in the past four years due to accidentally coming in contact with live wires. Additionally, it will further help in reducing power pilferage.
