NCL and UPRVUNL to fit extra 250 mw solar power capacity in UP

Northern Coalfields Ltd (NCL), a subsidiary of Coal India, has signed an agreement with Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Ltd (UPRVUNL) to install an additional 250 MW of solar power capacity in Uttar Pradesh. The pact includes setting up a 100 MW floating solar power plant and a 150 MW ground-mounted solar power plant for NCL. B Sairam , CMD, NCL emphasised the company's dedication to achieving net-zero status and transitioning to renewable energy for sustainable mining operations. This initiative aligns with Coal India's and the coal ministry's vision to reduce carbon footprints and promote green energy, supporting the nation's environmental goals. NCL has already commissioned a 50 MW ground-mounted solar power plant in Madhya Pradesh. With this new project, NCL aims to meet its energy requirements of about 290 MW, moving closer to becoming a net-zero company. NCL annually produces over 135 million tonnes of coal from its 10 mechanized open-cast coal mines located in the Singrauli and Sonbhadra districts of Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. Implementation Status of Jal Jeevan Mission

Since August 2019 the Government has implemented Jal Jeevan Mission to provide assured potable water through household tap connections in rural India. At the start of the mission only 32.3 million (mn) rural households, representing 16.7 per cent, were reported to have tap water connections. States and union territories have reported that 125.8 mn additional rural households have since been provided with tap connections. The Ministry of Jal Shakti has aligned the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) with the 73rd Amendment to strengthen village level planning and community ownership of water supply.
