NCL and UPRVUNL to fit extra 250 mw solar power capacity in UP

Northern Coalfields Ltd (NCL), a subsidiary of Coal India, has signed an agreement with Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Ltd (UPRVUNL) to install an additional 250 MW of solar power capacity in Uttar Pradesh. The pact includes setting up a 100 MW floating solar power plant and a 150 MW ground-mounted solar power plant for NCL. B Sairam , CMD, NCL emphasised the company's dedication to achieving net-zero status and transitioning to renewable energy for sustainable mining operations. This initiative aligns with Coal India's and the coal ministry's vision to reduce carbon footprints and promote green energy, supporting the nation's environmental goals. NCL has already commissioned a 50 MW ground-mounted solar power plant in Madhya Pradesh. With this new project, NCL aims to meet its energy requirements of about 290 MW, moving closer to becoming a net-zero company. NCL annually produces over 135 million tonnes of coal from its 10 mechanized open-cast coal mines located in the Singrauli and Sonbhadra districts of Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. This collaboration marks a significant step towards sustainable mining and reducing carbon emissions, reflecting NCL's commitment to environmental responsibility and renewable energy adoption.
