NTPC invites bids for 900 MW solar energy park in Cuba

On Tuesday, NTPC had invited bids for building a solar energy park of 900 MW in the Republic of Cuba. NTPC is a corporate partner of the International Solar Alliance (ISA). It has been selected as a favorable partner for implementing these projects.

As per an official press release, the Union Electrica de Cuba (UNE) and NTPC will work together on the project.

The government of Cuba via the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM) took the support of the ISA for the solar parks, which will cover 175 locations in the 15 Cuban provinces.

Under ISA Program-6, NTPC will provide assistance to UNE and MINEM in the selection, signing, and looking after the project implementation until it is commissioned.

Additionally, the 900 MW project is a small fraction of the 2,100 MW solar project target set by Cuba which aims at reducing greenhouse gas emissions. 2,400 MW hr per MW is the expected annual generation.

Cuba is also a country that is a member of the International Solar Alliance (ISA). The ISA is an organisation based on a treaty for the enlarged solar energy technology deployment. There are more than 101 signatory countries out of which 80 ratified the framework MW solar PV project using developer selection via competitive process on an international level.

According to the release, the request for qualification tender process will commence from March 2022 and will go on till May 2022.
