NTPC Signs MoU to Promote Green Hydrogen Mobility in Odisha

NTPC signed a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with GRIDCO, a Government of Odisha undertaking, and Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT), the state’s public transit agency, to promote green hydrogen mobility in Bhubaneswar. The MoU was exchanged at Lok Sewa Bhawan in Bhubaneswar, with the Odisha Deputy Chief Minister, Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, and the Housing and Urban Development Minister, Dr Krushna Chandra Mohapatra, present. Senior officials, including Principal Secretaries V K Dev and Usha Padhee, attended the event alongside representatives from NTPC, GRIDCO, and CRUT.

According to the agreement, NTPC will set up a green hydrogen fuelling station in Bhubaneswar and deploy hydrogen-powered buses for both short- and long-haul operations. This initiative is intended to replace fossil fuel-powered buses with cleaner alternatives, supporting decarbonisation and energy security. The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has provided partial funding for the project.

NTPC, which has been operating a green hydrogen blending project in Surat, Gujarat, for the past two years, has also started similar projects in Leh, Greater Noida, and Kandla. The company is in the process of developing a green hydrogen hub in Visakhapatnam and has set a target of achieving 60 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2032.
