Odisha Calls For Daily Energy Conservation On National Day

On the occasion of National Energy Conservation Day, Odisha Deputy Chief Minister K V Singh Deo urged citizens to adopt energy-saving practices in their daily lives, stressing that conservation must go beyond discussions and become a personal and national responsibility.

Addressing an event to mark the day, Singh Deo said efforts towards energy conservation should translate into everyday actions, such as switching off electrical appliances when not in use and adopting renewable energy solutions. He emphasised that energy conservation should be viewed not merely as a habit, but as a duty towards the nation.

Highlighting practical measures, the Deputy Chief Minister underlined the importance of proper earthing in every household and the widespread deployment of smart meters, which have the potential to significantly reduce energy losses. He reiterated the state government’s commitment to promoting energy efficiency and environmental stewardship in alignment with national missions on climate resilience and sustainable development.

Calling for collective action, Singh Deo said conserving energy and combating climate change are essential to achieving the vision of a Viksit Bharat and a Viksit Odisha. As part of the programme, he inaugurated a state-level exhibition showcasing energy-efficient appliances, electric vehicles and solar panels, and presented awards to industries that have implemented exemplary energy conservation initiatives.

Vishal Kumar Dev, Principal Secretary, Energy, said that alongside energy generation, conservation should remain a key focus, describing it as the cheapest and cleanest source of energy. At the policy level, he noted that Odisha already has a pump storage policy in place and has recently issued guidelines for floating solar projects, which could accelerate the state’s renewable energy capacity across solar, wind and hydro segments.

To mark the day, quiz competitions were organised at block and district levels across Odisha, with participation from more than 0.25 million students, aimed at raising awareness about energy efficiency among the younger generation.
