Power Grid Invites Bids For 765 kV Line To Support Green Hydrogen

The Power Grid Corporation of India Limited has invited bids for a major transmission project in Andhra Pradesh aimed at supporting emerging green hydrogen and green ammonia developments in the Visakhapatnam area. The project is being issued under the Transmission Line Package TL05 and forms part of a wider effort to strengthen renewable energy infrastructure in south India. POWERGRID is seeking contractors with experience in high voltage transmission works to participate in a tariff based competitive bidding (TBCB) process.

The scope covers the construction of the Khammam Two Pendurthi Visakhapatnam 765 kilovolt (kV) double circuit transmission line identified as Part Two of the larger network intended to enable Phase One of the proposed projects. The transmission segment will provide long distance evacuation capacity with reduced losses and is expected to form a high capacity backbone for industrial power demand. Developers will be able to connect large renewable energy resources to industrial zones thereby accelerating the transition to cleaner fuels.

The choice of a 765 kV voltage level is intended to enable efficient transmission of large quantities of electricity over extended distances while maintaining system reliability. Such infrastructure is particularly important for energy intensive processes associated with electrolytic hydrogen production which require steady, high capacity supply. The project aligns with wider government objectives to promote private sector participation and efficiency in large scale transmission investments.

The tender has been issued under the tariff based competitive bidding route with bidding documents available for download from March 23 until April four and online submission required by April six at 11:00 am via the PRANIT portal. The technical bids are scheduled to be opened the same day at 11:30 am and the procurement is being managed from the corporate office in Gurgaon. The tender notice indicates a fee of Rs 25,000 and notes that the earnest money deposit is shown as zero in the listing but financial commitments will be determined through the competitive process. Completion is expected to enhance Visakhapatnam region capacity for renewable energy and support large scale industrial decarbonisation.
