Siemens Gamesa wind turbines to be purchased by ArcelorMittal

For its 166 MW project in Andhra Pradesh, the Indian unit of global steel giant ArcelorMittal signed a contract with Siemens Gamesa, a leading manufacturer of wind turbines. One of ArcelorMittal's steel facilities in India will utilise the clean electricity generated, giving the nation's attempts to decarbonise the industry a much-needed boost. The agreement to provide 46 SG 3.6-145 wind turbines to AM Green Energy Private Ltd (AMGEPL), a joint venture between ArcelorMittal S.A. and ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India Ltd (AM/NS India), was inked, according to Siemens Gamesa.

According to Siemens Gamesa, the wind project will be a component of AMGEPL's 989 MW wind- solar hybrid renewable energy project in the Kurnool region of Andhra. The energy-intensive steel sector may contribute to a greener future by making significant investments in renewable energy.

The AM/NS India steel plant in Hazira, Gujarat, will use the entire amount of power produced by the Kurnool wind farm. This will allow AM/NS India to meet 20% of its electricity needs from renewable sources while also lowering its carbon emissions by 1.5 million tonnes annually.

Beginning in the second quarter of the calendar year 2023, Siemens Gamesa will begin supplying wind turbines to this project in Kurnool. The turbines will be produced at Siemens Gamesa's plants in India. The business operates nacelle and blade factories in Mamandur, Chennai, a centre for operations and maintenance in Red Hills, Andhra Pradesh, and a blade factory in Nellore, Andhra Pradesh. According to consulting firm Wood Mackenzie, Siemens Gamesa has been operating in India since 2009 and is currently the industry leader with a 40% market share and an installed base of more than 8 GW.
