Tata Power has signed a Master Research Agreement with the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) to advance innovations in next-generation energy technologies and clean energy solutions. The agreement was executed on the IIT Bombay campus by Tata Power Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Praveer Sinha and Shrikrishna V Kulkarni, Dean of Research and Development at IIT Bombay, according to a company statement. The collaboration will combine academic research strengths with industry deployment experience to move laboratory advances towards commercial application.\n\nThe partnership will target development across a broad set of technical domains, including smart grids, power electronics, energy storage, electric mobility, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence for power systems and digital grid technologies, as well as carbon capture and circular economy initiatives. Workstreams will emphasise system level integration, demonstrator projects and technologies that are ready for roll out at scale. Joint research programmes will be structured to align academic timelines with industry implementation requirements and to foster rapid prototyping.\n\nThe agreement seeks to accelerate the translation of cutting edge research into scalable, industry ready technologies that support India's clean energy transition, strengthen energy security and promote sustainable development. Partners expect the collaboration to reduce time to commercialisation and to bolster domestic capability in advanced power technologies. Focus will include resilience, security and intelligence of the power ecosystem alongside environmental sustainability.\n\nTata Power leadership indicated that combining IIT Bombay's research capability with the company's deployment experience is intended to speed development of future-ready energy solutions and support a more resilient and sustainable power sector. IIT Bombay leadership said the collaboration aligns with the institute's mission to translate advanced laboratory research into deployable industry solutions. The parties will proceed with jointly defined projects, shared resources and mechanisms to monitor progress and scalability.
