Waaree Signs PPA With SECI For 300 Megawatt Wind Farm In Gujarat

Waaree Energies has signed a power purchase agreement with the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) for a 300 Megawatt (MW) interstate transmission system connected wind power project in Gujarat. The agreement adds to India’s expanding renewable energy pipeline as the country accelerates wind and solar capacity development to meet long term clean energy targets. The project will be connected to the interstate transmission network to enable distribution beyond the state border.

The project is expected to supply electricity under SECI’s wind energy procurement programme and to strengthen renewable power availability across multiple states through the interstate transmission system. Gujarat remains a key wind energy hub because of strong wind resources and large scale renewable energy infrastructure, supporting the economics of utility scale projects. The company has outlined that grid integration and energy security are central aims of the development.

Industry participants observed that long term power purchase agreements provide revenue visibility and support project financing, making such deals attractive to developers and lenders. The transaction is seen as a marker of renewed activity in the wind sector after a period of relatively slower expansion compared with solar installations. Market commentators added that interstate connectivity is increasingly important as renewable generation concentrates in resource rich states while electricity demand grows in industrial and urban centres.

The development is expected to support clean energy generation, emissions reduction and diversification of India’s renewable mix as utilities and developers expand investment in the sector. Policymakers and industry are focusing on scaling both wind and solar capacity to meet national targets and to lower reliance on fossil fuels. The project therefore aligns with broader efforts to enhance supply adequacy and foster regional energy sharing.
