Asia’s biggest single-site solar power project, the Rewa Ultra Mega Solar (RUMSL), commenced operations on July 11. Located at Rewa in Madhya Pradesh, the facility was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi via video conference. Speaking on the occasion, the prime minister said that apart from the people and industries in Madhya Pradesh, the Delhi Metro Rail would also benefit from it. After other big solar projects in the states were completed, Madhya Pradesh would become a clean energy hub, he said, adding that solar energy would be a major medium for providing the energy needs of an aspirational India in the 21st Century.
