Auda to construct 5,000 houses in demarcated zone

In two years, Ahmedabad Urban development Authority (Auda) pledged that it would construct 5,000 houses in the newly demarcated 'affordable housing' zone in the city.

For this purpose, the Auda committee allotted almost 43.25 sq km of the total 67.51 sq km under the zone. The houses will be constructed for lower income and middle income groups.

The size of these affordable houses will be 66 s qm for middle income group housing and 36 s qm for Lower Income Group housing.

The authority identified areas like Kathwada, Nikol, Bhat-Sughad and Khodiyar, among others for the affordable housing project.

The authority may initially develop a town planning scheme for the project area. Nearly 26.07 sq km in Auda area and 17.18 sq km within Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) limits in the affordable housing zone do not have town planning schemes.

Auda committee also resolved to send the development plan for approval to the state government after incorporating necessary changes on the basis of objections and suggestions received from the public.
