Athulya Opens Dedicated Geriatric Hospital in Chennai

Athulya Senior Care has inaugurated its first dedicated geriatric hospital in Valasaravakkam, Chennai, marking a significant expansion of its elder care services and completing its integrated care ecosystem spanning hospital care, assisted living and home care.

The 60-bed Athulya Geriatric Care Hospital was inaugurated by Thiru Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, Governor of Tamil Nadu, in the presence of the company's founders, healthcare professionals and industry stakeholders.

The launch comes amid growing demand for specialised elder care infrastructure in India. According to the National Statistical Office, India's elderly population is projected to reach 193.4 million by 2031. The company highlighted that while the country is estimated to require around 400,000 senior care beds, only about 20,000 are currently available. The organised assisted living sector accounts for fewer than 4,500 units nationwide.

Tamil Nadu alone has nearly 10 million people above the age of 55, underscoring the need for specialised geriatric healthcare infrastructure.

Athulya Geriatric Care Hospital offers medical services supported by more than 20 doctors across over 10 disciplines. The facility houses specialised Centres of Excellence in areas such as geriatric intensive care, orthopaedics and rehabilitation, general and laparoscopic surgery, neurology, urology and psychiatry.

The hospital also provides multidisciplinary care across specialties including cardiology, oncology, nephrology and rehabilitation medicine, enabling coordinated management of complex health conditions commonly associated with ageing.

Commenting on the launch, Srinivasan G, Founder and CEO, Athulya Senior Care, said, "Over the years, Athulya has built a strong eldercare ecosystem through assisted living, home care and transitional care services. The launch of our dedicated Geriatric Care Hospital is a natural and necessary expansion of that vision, completing the continuum of care for seniors."

Dr Karthik Narayan, Founder and Managing Director, Athulya Senior Care, added, "The healthcare needs of seniors are often complex and require a care model that goes beyond traditional treatment approaches. With Athulya Geriatric Care Hospital, our focus has been to create a specialised clinical framework supported by dedicated infrastructure, geriatric expertise and multidisciplinary care teams."

The integrated care model is designed to address chronic disease management, rehabilitation, recovery and long-term care requirements, with an emphasis on continuity of care rather than episodic treatment.

Athulya said the new facility reflects the growing need to place geriatric care at the centre of healthcare planning as India prepares for a rapidly ageing population.

"Join industry leaders at RAHSTA Expo, India's premier platform for roads, highways and traffic infrastructure. Register now to explore innovations, network with experts and shape the future of mobility."
