Data and AI Crucial for Transforming India's Infrastructure

A senior official emphasised that data is a valuable resource that should be used for productive purposes. Surendra Ahirwar, Joint Secretary of Logistics & Trade at the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, mentioned that the adoption of AI is not merely a choice but a natural progression. He described it as "raw wealth" that must be harnessed effectively.

Ahirwar further explained that, over the past three years, the government has advanced beyond merely setting up the system. He highlighted that technology has been adopted across most departments, with 44 ministries now involved. According to him, the challenge was also to bring states and Union Territories on board, which has been successfully achieved.

Data from current projects, he noted, is crucial for planning future initiatives, and in cases of project expansion, the use of digital twins will address any existing infrastructure gaps.

Recently, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan (PMGS-NMP) is a transformative initiative, aiming to overhaul India's infrastructure and expedite development across various sectors. He emphasized that PM GatiShakti is a strategy for economic growth and sustainable development, driven by seven key areas: railways, roads, ports, waterways, airports, mass transport, and logistics infrastructure.

The Prime Minister highlighted that the seamless integration of various stakeholders has significantly improved logistics, reduced delays, and created new opportunities. He added that GatiShakti is accelerating India's journey toward a "Viksit Bharat" (Developed India), fostering progress, entrepreneurship, and innovation.

"Join industry leaders at RAHSTA Expo, India's premier platform for roads, highways and traffic infrastructure. Register now to explore innovations, network with experts and shape the future of mobility."
