Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah inaugurated and laid foundation stones for development initiatives of the National Dairy Development Board and OMFED in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, and opened Sulphuric Acid Plant?III at IFFCO's Paradip unit. He indicated that development works worth Rs 37,700 million (mn) were inaugurated and foundation stones laid in a single day. The events included an exhibition explaining the new criminal laws in simple language and a cooperative development seminar attended by senior officials. The minister described the Paradip plant as a significant step towards national self?reliance in sulphuric acid production and said that IFFCO and KRIBHCO would jointly work to make the country self?sufficient in the chemical. He noted that the plant's capacity had risen from 0.75 million (mn) t to 2.2 million (mn) t since acquisition in 2005 for Rs 25,770 million (mn), and that about 15 per cent of production is blended fertiliser while about 40 per cent is used in indigenous DAP. He also outlined efforts to reduce excessive chemical fertiliser use through Nano Urea, Nano DAP and the PM?PRANAM scheme. He stated that three projects of the Ministry of Home Affairs, four projects of the Ministry of Cooperation and 173 projects of the Odisha Government had been inaugurated or had foundation stones laid, with 61 projects costing Rs 12,300 million (mn) completed and 112 projects costing Rs 21,160 million (mn) inaugurated that day. The foundation stone for the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) campus and a temporary campus were also progressed, with the permanent campus expected to be fully operational in three years and to offer 30 courses to around 2,500 students. He added that visits by Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) teams are now mandatory in serious cases punishable with more than seven years of imprisonment. He emphasised that Odisha had achieved a conviction rate of more than 87 per cent under the new criminal laws and outlined cooperative sector plans to build village?level cooperatives on the lines of the Amul model. Programmes were announced to expand dairy and fisheries cooperatives, to restart sugar mills through Indian Potash Limited and to strengthen rural livelihoods, with benefits extended to 10 million women under the Subhadra Yojana and the minister noting that IFFCO's earnings ultimately benefit some 50 million farmers. He also expressed confidence that Naxalism would be eliminated by 31 March 2026 and highlighted that eight free trade agreements have been concluded since 2021, supporting continued economic momentum.
