Commercial LPG Prices Rise Rs. 10, ATF Rates Hiked

The price of a 19-kg commercial liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinder increased by Rs. 10 to Rs. 2,820 from November 1. Aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices also rose by Rs. 1.37 per litre, marking another increase in fuel costs for airlines and commercial users.

The LPG increase follows a rise of Rs. 62.50 per cylinder on October 1 and Rs. 9.50 on September 1. Commercial LPG prices had declined by Rs. 183.50 in July and Rs. 192 in August after increasing by Rs. 1,373 per cylinder between February and June.

During that period, the price of a commercial cylinder climbed from Rs. 1,740.50 to a record Rs. 3,113.50 before falling over the following two months. The latest revision leaves prices below that peak, although commercial users have faced consecutive monthly increases since September.

A 5-kg Free Trade LPG cylinder for a new connection is now priced at Rs. 1,903, while a refill costs Rs. 782, according to the revised rate list. The price of a 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinder used by households remained unchanged at Rs. 942.

Petrol and diesel prices also remained unchanged after rising by around Rs. 7.50 per litre each in May. ATF prices increased to Rs. 138.50 per litre from Rs. 137.12, marking the fourth consecutive monthly increase, according to state-owned oil companies.

The ATF revision was attributed to firming international benchmark prices, alongside movements in the rupee-dollar exchange rate. Jet fuel accounts for up to 40 per cent of airlines’ operating costs. LPG and ATF prices are revised on the first day of each month and can differ between states because of local taxes, including value-added tax.
