Karan Adani, chief executive officer of Adani Ports and SEZ Ltd, met Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Deputy Chief Minister KV Singh Deo in Bhubaneswar on Thursday to discuss the Adani Group's ongoing and proposed projects in the state, including plans for setting up nuclear power projects. The meeting also covered other infrastructure proposals and avenues for collaboration. Accompanied by a delegation, he discussed avenues for industrial collaboration and infrastructure development, with a government statement indicating the talks covered projects proposed by the group in Odisha. The statement said deliberations with the deputy chief minister focused on accelerating deployment of clean energy infrastructure, specifically Pumped Storage Plant (PSP) development, solar power generation and nuclear power projects to bolster long-term energy security, grid reliability and sustainable development goals. The group reiterated its intent to invest in the state's energy sector and outlined plans for establishing two power plants with a capacity of 3,000 megawatt (MW) each. Officials said the company invited the deputy chief minister to visit its renewable energy projects in other states and that earlier meetings had expressed interest in broadening investment in Odisha's energy mix. During the meeting with the chief minister, senior state officials discussed approvals, land identification and acquisition and ground-level challenges, and agreed to set timeframes for each proposed project to resolve delays. The discussions also covered proposed bauxite mining and downstream units, including an alumina refinery and captive power plant in Rayagada district, bauxite mines in Kutrumali and Balada, and an aluminium smelter in Cuttack. The group also proposed an integrated coal gasification and coal-to-chemicals plant at Bedabahal in Sundargarh district and expansion of its Dhamra port. The coal-to-chemicals project has received approval from a high-powered committee and envisages an investment of around Rs 800 bn. Senior state officers at the meeting included Development Commissioner Deoranjan Kumar Singh, Additional Chief Secretary Hemant Sharma, Additional Chief Secretary Vishal Dev and ACS Usha Padhee.
