Ministers launch Rs 110 mn projects in Coimbatore

KN Nehru, Municipal Administration Minister and S Muthusamy, Housing Minister, inaugurated 27 completed projects in the city worth Rs 110.08 million. They also laid the foundation stones for 558 new projects valued at Rs 670.48 million. Additionally, they handed over assistance worth Rs 320.12 million to 703 beneficiaries and conducted an inspection of the smart city project works.

During a review meeting with councillors and officials, Nehru mentioned that he had spoken to the Kerala government about procuring water from the Siruvani dam. He further stated that the Pillur 3 drinking water project would be finished by October, ensuring a supply of water to Coimbatore city every two days. Nehru also emphasized that, in the past decade, only Rs 100 billion had been allocated for drinking water supply, but the DMK government had allocated Rs 250 billion in the last two years.

Nehru explained that Coimbatore's drinking water requirements amounted to 298 MLD, while only 214 MLD were currently available.

He highlighted that the Pillur Scheme 3 drinking water project was near completion, with only a few remaining tasks. Once an additional 188 MLD of water was received from the scheme, Coimbatore would receive a regular water supply. Nehru noted that the Minister of Water Resources and the Chief Minister had corresponded with the Kerala government via letters and phone calls regarding the Siruvani and Aliyar Dams. He also mentioned that funds had been allocated for the repair of 680 kilometres of roads, with instructions for officials to expedite the repairs.
