NDA To Prepare DPR For Metro Projects In Madurai And Coimbatore

BJP leader K Annamalai expressed confidence that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) would win the forthcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections and said that, after securing power, a Detailed Project Report (DPR) would be prepared to introduce metro projects to Madurai and Coimbatore for public benefit. He indicated that the DPR would form the basis for implementation and delivery of the projects to local residents. The remarks were delivered during a press conference in Madurai on April 13.

Annamalai alleged that the husband of the candidate fielded by the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) in Thiruparankundram was facing cases under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and additional sexual assault charges, and he urged that voters be informed about the matters pending against him. He suggested that awareness of the candidate profile should guide voter choices in the constituency. The BJP leader also outlined active campaigning across Madurai district ahead of polling.

He noted that an All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) was being established to serve the region and would be available for public use in due course. Annamalai described participation alongside National President Nitin Nabin during campaigning in Madurai South and said the activity provided an opportunity to support the alliance candidate. He added that the campaign schedule had included visits to multiple assembly constituencies in Madurai.

Tamil Nadu will go to the polls in a single phase on April 23, with counting scheduled for May four. The main contest is expected between the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance (SPA), which includes the Indian National Congress, Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam and Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, and the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), led by AIADMK with the Bharatiya Janata Party and Pattali Makkal Katchi as allies. Actor-turned-politician Vijay is set to make his electoral debut with the TVK, a development that may turn the race into a three-way contest.
