UP Japan Investment Meet 2026 Strengthens Industrial Ties

Uttar Pradesh has outlined plans to deepen industrial and institutional ties with Japan, seeking broader Japanese participation across automobiles, green hydrogen, advanced manufacturing, technology and healthcare. Finance and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Khanna presented the state’s investment proposition at the UP-Japan Investment Meet 2026 in New Delhi on 19 August 2026, with a Japanese delegation led by Kotaro Nagasaki, Governor of Yamanashi Prefecture, in attendance. The proposition highlights improved connectivity, a large consumer market and enhanced infrastructure as enablers of investment. The state’s single-window facilitation platform, Nivesh Mitra, was cited as a measure to simplify business processes.

Automobiles and advanced manufacturing were identified as priority sectors for collaboration, with green hydrogen, innovation and healthcare also highlighted as areas of opportunity. Khanna indicated that the state’s industrial ecosystem would allow Japanese firms to engage through technology partnerships, innovation and joint industrial projects in addition to capital investment. The minister linked the renewed focus to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s recent visit to Japan, which he described as having provided fresh momentum to bilateral industrial engagement. The meet aimed to translate strategic ties into concrete projects and institutional cooperation.

Green hydrogen and advanced technologies were presented as complementary strengths the state seeks to pair with Japanese technical expertise and project experience. Officials emphasised sustainable development pathways and the potential for long-term collaboration in technology transfer, research and upskilling of the workforce. The state highlighted initiatives to improve skills, land availability and regulatory clarity as elements designed to reduce friction for investors. Delegates exchanged proposals on pilot projects and partnerships to explore demonstrations and scale up investment.

Organisers presented the meet as a platform to convert interest into memoranda of understanding and project agreements, with the state committing to provide follow up support and sector specific facilitation for investors. Observers regarded the event as a step toward deeper economic engagement.
