Vedanta Secures Punnam Manganese Block in Andhra Pradesh

Vedanta Ltd (Vedanta) has been declared the successful bidder for the Punnam manganese block in Andhra Pradesh, the company said in a regulatory filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) on 14 August 2026. The announcement, communicated from New Delhi, follows the completion of a formal bidding process for the site. The notification formed part of routine regulatory disclosure to the market.

The block spans 152 hectares and is classified at the G4 stage of exploration, the initial phase of mineral exploration that focuses on geological broad-scale surveys to identify potential mineralisation. At this stage, work typically seeks to outline areas of interest for targeted study and to inform decisions on further sampling. The G4 classification typically denotes high level reconnaissance and indicates that detailed drilling and sampling will be required to define resources.

Vedanta said it had fulfilled the required statutory compliances and received a confirmation letter dated 13 August 2026 declaring it the successful bidder for the Punnam manganese block. The company filed the information with BSE to inform investors and regulators of the development. The confirmation letter fulfils the immediate legal formalities required to confirm the grant of the block.

The award of the block sets the stage for further exploration and assessment, which will proceed under the regulatory framework governing mineral grants in the state. Subsequent technical studies and permits are expected to guide the timetable for any developmental work while the holder completes statutory and environmental clearances. Any schedule for development will be shaped by the outcomes of those studies and by regulatory clearances.

Market observers will monitor updates to the BSE filing and any subsequent disclosures on exploration progress and investment plans. The transaction is likely to be included in routine regulatory filings as the company advances the project through prescribed stages. Investors and other stakeholders will watch subsequent filings for timelines, work programmes and expenditure plans.
